Conference : pikas and people: Stories of citizen science for monitoring alpine mammals in North America

September 28, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Free

We look forward to seeing many of you at the Mont-Blanc Observatory to welcome Johanna Varner, researcher and professor of Biology at Colorado Mesa University

What is a pika and how are citizen scientist volunteers monitoring these adorable mammals in the United States? Join pika researcher Johanna Varner to learn more about these delightful animals, which are unfortunately not found in the Alps. American pikas are disappearing from some mountains due to climate change, but volunteers are helping monitor many populations, including their recovery after wildfires. Volunteers have also made several important discoveries about the biology of pikas and are helping to solve a mystery involving marmot..
